Extract containing functional tannins from kurome seaweed harvested in a marine area of Amakusa, Japan

ECKLEXT BG is an extract of the whole algae of Phaeophyta (Ecklonia kurome). It is extracted with 1,3-butylene glycol solution.

Ecklonia kurome is a seaweed that belongs to the Laminariaceae family. Ecklonia kurome grows 1-2 m tall, and it is harvested in a marine area off the west coast of the Amakusa region (the coastal waters of Itsuwamachi, Amakusa).

Traceability for Ecklonia kurome, the raw material of this product, has been secured by adopting the contract farming method with the Amakusa Fisheries Cooperative.

1. Features

  • Ecklonia kurome contains an abundance of marine polyphenols called phlorotannins. Various functions of phlorotannins have come to light through the research of joint development partners The Chemo-Sero-Therapeutic Research Institute (Kaketsuken) and Kumamoto Prefectural Fisheries Research Center.
  • ECKLEXT BG contains approximately 0.5 mg/mL* of phlorotannins. This amount is equivalent to approximately 5% of the residue on evaporation.

* This is not the specification value.
