Background
With growing demands in recent years, centered on Europe, to prevent harmful substances that pollute the environment from leaching from end-of-life vehicles, there have been active moves to ban the use of lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium and other substances in automobile production. Europe has already decided to prohibit the use of hexavalent chromium from July 2007. In response, global automakers have vied to develop new environmentally friendly materials, which they are already introducing as replacements. Companies in the coating sector have also been pushing forward with the development and application of substitutes for chromate electroplating treatment, corrosion prevention coating pigments and other products. Against this backdrop, three companies in the NOF METAL COATINGS Group (NOF METAL COATINGS ASIA PACIFIC CO.,LTD., NOF METAL COATINGS EUROPE S.A. and NOF METAL COATINGS NORTH AMERICA INC.) worked together to successfully develop GEOMET®, a completely chrome-free coating product. |

Characteristics
GEOMET® is a next-generation, environmentally friendly coating technology that contains no harmful substances such as lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury or hexavalent chromium. It has the following characteristics:

Despite being chrome-free, the corrosion resistance of GEOMET® is comparable to that of DACROTIZED®, another coating product manufactured by the NOF METAL COATINGS Group but containing chrome. |

Because GEOMET® is a water-based product, workplaces are safer. |

GEOMET® can be used with existing DACROTIZED® equipment. |

The closed system used with GEOMET® precludes any need for wastewater treatment |
