Background
Amid growing efforts to deal with global environmental issues, the papermaking industry is stepping up efforts to recycle paper products in order to use forest resources more effectively. Japan's paper recycling rate, now at about 60%, is expected to continue climbing. As the recycled content of newly manufactured paper rises, there is an increase in the amount of deposits that occur during the papermaking process. These deposits pose a number of technological problems that affect productivity, product quality and other aspects of operations. Deposit control agents limit the occurrence of these deposits, enabling paper companies to improve productivity and maintain a consistent level of product quality. |

The NOF Group supplies the papermaking industry with deposit control agents as well as paper sizing agents and other products. |

Characteristics
Millspray®and Spanol® which is applied to paper externally, is a revolutionary deposit control agent that has a completely different function compared with conventional cleaning agents. External agents remove deposits that build up during papermaking by dispersing them in the form of microscopic particles so they become attached to the paper. As the use of recycled paper increases, demand has been rising for the radical deposit countermeasure of adding an internal deposit control agent to the raw materials used to make paper. In response, NOF in fiscal 1999 began selling Detac®, an internal deposit control agent that is primarily used by paper mills that manufacture household products. |
