As Japan’s only manufacturer of solid rocket propellant since the early days of the domestic “pencil rocket,” the Explosives & Propulsion Systems Division develops and manufactures solid propellant and pyrotechnic components for a number of rockets, including Japan’s workhorse H-IIA, and M-V, used to launch Japan’s world renowned scientific satellites.

NOF Group’s industrial explosives are highly trusted in the fields ranging from land and ocean development to mining. Our advanced and highly safe emulsion explosives, developed in response to strict safety regulations for explosives, are used in tunnel boring and a wide range of other areas.

Group subsidiary Nichiyu Giken Kogyo Co., Ltd. has developed underwater releaser incorporating solid gas generator. This device is making a significant contribution to ocean exploitation by enabling deep-sea surveys, the measurement of ocean currents, undersea cable laying, marine construction and other projects.

From its establishment to the present day, NOF has played its part in the defense of Japan through the manufacture and sale of defense-related explosives and ammunitions.

The division designs, produces, tests and evaluates an extensive range of explosive devices such as artillery projectiles for field guns, tanks, anti-aircraft guns and training weapons, as well as solid propellants for rockets and missiles.

Group subsidiary HOKKAIDO NOF CORPORATION is also involved in the disposal of explosives.

Gunpowder

The division produces nitroglycerine-based materials for pharmaceutical products. These products are used by patients with heart disease, a condition that has become more prevalent in Japan with the ageing of society and the westernization of the country’s diet.

NOF subsidiary Nichiyu Giken Kogyo also produces and sells sterilized bags and cards, helping to build trust in sterilization procedures at medical institutions.

Leveraging its wide-ranging expertise in explosive devices, Nippon Koki Co., Ltd. develops high cost-performance security and safety products.

Showa Kinzoku Kogyo Co., Ltd. produce and sell automotive safety devices such as micro-gas generators for seatbelt pretensioner.

NOF subsidiaries in the Explosives & Propulsion Systems Division provide an extensive lineup of products for a variety of more everyday situations, including: torches carried by athletes at sports events, manufactured by Nippon Koki; chemical color indicators that make it easy for users to see changes in exposure to UV or other radiation, made by Nichiyu Giken Kogyo; and antifreezing agents for use on roads, produced by HOKKAIDO NOF CORPORATION.
