Effect of MODIPER® AS series to squeak noise
Anti-squeak noise property of plastic parts made up of ABS, PC, PC/ABS, POM, etc can be improved with 3-5% addition of MODIPER® AS series.
Concept of Anti-squeak
When two materials are rubbed against each other, the squeak-noise occurs due to alternate adhesion and sliding on the interface . MODIPER® AS series can give lubricating property on the surface of plastic parts, so that the slipping surface is made with MODIPER® AS series, then it can lead to reduce the squeak-noise.
Test method (Stick-Slip test)
The two specimens (big and small) are prepared. Big one (Test material) is reciprocated and rubbed with small one by 3 times. The risk of squeak noise is shown by Risk-Priority-Number (RPN) which is ranked by the 10 stages shown below, (In case of RPN=1~3, it is categorized as No stick-slip risk).
Test results
① MODIPER® AS100
Results of stick-slip test with POM, PC, ABS, and PC/ABS containing MODIPER® AS100 are shown
below.
As a result, RPN can be less than 3 by adding more than 3% additive ratio of MODIPER® AS100.
Moreover, the effect can be sustained even after the aging test.
② MODIPER® AS155
MODIPER® AS155 can improve the anti-squeak noise property of plastic parts, especially against
with leather material.
Results of stick-slip test of PC/ABS containing MODIPER® AS155 after aging step are shown
below.
For this test, the PC/ABS base resin without MODIPER® AS155 or the PVC artificial leather are
used as a counter material.
As a result, RPN can be even 3 by adding even 3% additive ratio of MODIPER® AS155.
Moreover, the effect can be sustained even after aging test.
Basically, it is recommended to add MODIPER® AS155 at compounding step to maximize anti-squeak
noise property.
On the other hand, MODIPER® AS155 can be used with adding at the injection molding step(`at the
press' or `dry-blend') also.
Comparison test results between two different adding way of MODIPER® AS155 are shown below.
The test results proves that MODIPER® AS155 can show excellent anti-squeak property with adding
condition not only at compounding step but also at the press.
